What recall statuses mean
FDA statuses
- Ongoing: the recall is still in progress.
- Completed: the recalling firm has finished its recall actions; the FDA has not yet terminated it.
- Terminated: the FDA has determined that all reasonable efforts have been made to remove or correct the product, in line with the recall strategy.
FDA classifications
- Class I: a reasonable probability that use of or exposure to the product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.
- Class II: use of or exposure may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences, or the probability of serious consequences is remote.
- Class III: use of or exposure is not likely to cause adverse health consequences.
CPSC recalls
Consumer Product Safety Commission recalls are announced jointly with the company and list the hazard and the remedy (refund, repair or replacement). CPSC data does not carry an ongoing or terminated status, so they are shown as announced.
Definitions follow the FDA's Recalls, Corrections and Removals guidance and 21 CFR 7.3.
